Monash scientists have made a breakthrough to help Gold Coast woman fall pregnant, faster.

They've developed a world-first DNA test that's non-invasive and cost effective. Unlike current invasive techniques which require an embryo biopsy, the new test takes a sample of DNA without touching the embryo.

"The embryo itself secretes DNA outside of itself and into a culture medium that they grow the embryo in," Monash scientist Associate Professor Deirdre Zander-Fox said.

The fluid around it is then isolated and genetically analysed to increase the chances of falling pregnant, while at the same time reducing the risk of miscarriage.

Available exclusively to Monash IVF patients, the test will also reduce the number of babies born with genetic problems, Gold Coast IVF specialist Dr Kee Ong said.

"One in six Australian couples struggle with infertility and the risk of chromosomal disorders is higher later in life when many woman seek IVF treatment," Dr Ong said.

The screening test is currently offered across 13 Monash clinics nationwide, providing hope to 40 per cent of patients who aren't able to have the current testing because their embryos aren't strong enough to survive.

"This new test is suitable for all embryos. We have the ability to pick the healthiest embryo with practically no risk to the embryo, results are usually ready within seven days," he said.Tiffany Yovich is Dr Ong's latest patient. After enduring seven failed IVF cycles, the 35-year-old thought she'd never fall pregnantShe decided to make one last attempt, trying the screening test in June. She's now 8.5 weeks pregnant and says the new test has changed her life.

"It's fantastic, I can't believe I finally got here, I never really thought this would happen," she said.

"It's really going to revolutionise the way embryos are tested."

Despite the advanced technology, the cost will be significantly lower than the current biopsy method.
